What I Did At The Weekend
Friday - Paranoia at Rich's. The party once again completed the entire mission AND we got promoted a clearance level!!! Then a lie was uncovered & we were de-moted again, but the mission was a success! :)

Saturday - Didn't do much all day as felt absolutely awful & full of plague (another cold) got ready & went the Harts event, thankfully was drugged up enough to enjoy at that stage! :)

    HOT:
    Seeing everyone.
    Siquinanook's decision making
Wizard Prang rewarding Dawn with some paperwork from the stuff she did him at the previous event.
Confusing all Norscans with talk of void jelly
Being lied to by Christophe & Uri telling me the Londoninium urchins come from the sea & spinning a ridculous yarn that only a small gullible child would believe... ;)
    The bards
Alorna getting mistletoed by Sir Richard Percy
Meeting Firenzi's sister, and talking about how rubbish siblings are at times.
The lady garden! Most of the women had a flower with their name on a lammie. When you opened it, everyone had their own smell. Aparently a 'Dawn Cire' is a purple rose that smells of a mountain of candy! HOW appropriate?!?

    NOT:
Still some barriers on the whole age thing, but not so bad this time round. :)

Sunday: Woke up by a poorly Lauren, bless her. Had breakfast, nattered, went to the Johnson Arms with Ollie & Chris for lunch, was nom. Bundled my beloved wifey off on a train home. The Ben & his mum (who is _awesome_) came round for a bit before he went home for christmas, and THEN Mike Clewitt came round to talk LARP & get a keen for going.

Today: Is Matt's birthday. He loved the card. It really meant a lot to him that so many people signed it & he said that was the best present he had had in a while. Might be going for a meal later, don't rightly know, it's up to Matt.

    Current Mood: Happy but sleepy!

    Writer's Block: Holiday blues

What is the most emotionally challenging aspect of the holidays for you? Do you enjoy this season more or less than you did as a child?

    View 701 Answers

The most emotionally challenging part is getting presents together for people. I never feel like its enough, no matter what I get them.

I enjoy it less these days. I think it looses a lot of its magic as you get older.

    Writer's Block: Forever young

If cryogenics became a real, affordable option (i.e., if you could freeze your body until aging and illnesses were better understood), would you consider it? If so, do you fear you'd miss out on the wisdom that comes with growing old and dying?

Yes I think I'd go for it. But I want a note pinning on the vault saying 'not to be opened until anti-aging is invented!'.

This term's Cthulhu ended spectacularly with my killing the dopperganger vampiric version of myself with a non-euclidian stake (long story). The vamp took me down with her but it was completely worth it, and besides, poor Miss Faloula had four mental derangements anyway....

    Tonight Paranoia.

    Tomorrow Harts.

Sunday lots of bits & bobs

    Monday Matts birthday

Busy, busy busy! Happy birthday in advance to Ron & Potter in case I don't get the chance to say it on the day.....

Do you think society puts too much pressure on people to be in relationships and/or have children? Do you think this ostracizes people who would be perfectly content to remain single and/or child-free? Is this pressure worse around the holidays?

Dear god YES! To all three! On re-reading my reply I may have UBER ranted, sorry!

    The kid stuff:
Look at society. You're a weirdo for thinking that a bundle of screaming, crapping, crying, puking, money & energy draining 'joy' is a terrible idea. I think it sounds exhausting, stressful and soul sapping. And thats before even thinking of the joys of childbirth, post natal depression etc.... I have every admiration for those that do it because its a HUGE responsibilty I would never desire. I'd rather have a cat please! Apparently, this makes me odd....

    The couple stuff:
Every TV programme is full of fraught desperate singles and struggling couples trying to be the ideal & in love shining example. Ever tried living on your own, ESPECIALLY trying to get a mortgage on your own as opposed to being in a couple? Its a lot harder, if not impossible for many. It's a huge society pressure to be together with someone. And then if thats not evidence enough, think of how many single people get drunk on Valentines to forget they are alone or folks that top themselves through loneliness at Christmas, or the fact that the phrase 'smug marrieds' even exists. I'll even admit I'm a happier person when I'm in a relationship than alone.

    Snowman Birthday Cake!
It's been *ages* since I posted any cakes as I've not done any baking in months :o( However, it's Bryan's Birthday on Monday and so it was time to get baking again :o) He requested a snowman using the same recipe I used last year (a coconut cake with coconut frosting) So here it is...

    Snowman Cake

The buttons are Cadbury's chocolate buttons, and the nose is some marzipan with a little red food colouring worked through. It was made from just two normal circular cakes, with a bit of cunning cutting. There was even some leftover bits so I can vouch for its tastiness already ;o)

    Writer's Block: Sense and sensibility

If you could keep only one of your five senses--taste, touch, smell, sight, or hearing--which would you choose and why?

Sight. I can do without hearing relatively easily (and speech) as long as you have sight to see whats going on & communicate. If you lose smell you've lost a good majority of your taste anyway. If everything tastes the same that makes dieting a doddle. Without touch nothing physically hurts but sight allows you to see if you are injured.
